The lake is one of the most important attractions of the area: fishermen practice their favorite sport and get catches of rainbow trout and salmon. Cherries and fine fruits represent the main source of income for locals. Some of the farms provide accommodation, and tourists are able to watch the harvesting process and acquire regional jams, liquors and home-made preserves. The name of the place refers to the ancient Tehuelche people who used to migrate north during the cold season. The older people used to be left in these lands since they were unable to endure long trips and found the local weather more suitable for living until the beginning of the summer.
